Suspected militants on Thursday looted the Jammu and Kashmir Bank's Ratnipora branch and fled with about Rs 11 lakh, police said.
“Around 11 lakh rupees were looted from the branch in Ratnipora area of the distract Pulwama, the area has been cordoned off to nab the gunmen,” they said.
Further investigations are on.
This is third incident of looting of a bank in Kashmir in a month after Centre’s announcement of the demonetisation move.
On December 8, militants looted a bank branch in Pulwama district and fled with Rs 13.38 lakh, including Rs 11.15 lakh in new notes.
The terrorists fired several rounds before fleeing with cash, police said.
On November 21, militants had decamped with Rs 13 lakh from a bank branch in Charar-e-Sharief area of central Kashmir Budgam district.
