External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday said that she is aware of unfortunate incidents of attacks on the Indian students in Italy's Milan and she is monitoring the situation personally.
"Attack on Indian students in Milan: I have got the detailed report. Pls do not worry. I am monitoring the situation personally", Sushma Swaraj tweeted.
Indian students have been assaulted in a string of incidents in northern Italy, the Indian Consulate in Milan has said.
On Monday night, the foreign minister even retweeted an advisory issued by the Consulate General of India (CGI) in Milan. "The Consulate has received reports of unfortunate incidents of attacks on the Indian students in Milan. All Indian students urged not to panic. The Consulate is taking up this matter with the highest level of law and order authorities in Milan.
Students are also requested to report such matters to the Consulate on Consul General's cell 3290884057 immediately. This will help Consulate take up the issue with the higher authorities in Milan so that the efforts can be made to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
In the meanwhile, the students are advised to be in touch with each other (particularly when they go out) as well as the Consulate and spread the information among other students about the areas where they face such incidents so that such areas can be avoided or approached with greater caution," said the advisory posted on Twitter.
Indian students in Italy's Milan have reportedly said that they have been thrashed by broken beer bottles and abused by attackers for their skin colour. The students also claimed that they have been told to go back to their own country by the attackers.
