Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has raised questioned over the Centre's 'iron-fist' policy in dealing with terrorists in the region after three policemen were kidnapped and killed by them.
Mehbooba asserted that dialogue was the only way forward to address the issue of terrorism in the state.
"Three more policemen have lost their lives to militant bullets. Outrage, shock & condemnation will be expressed by all of us on expected lines. Unfortunately, it brings no solace to the families of the victims," the PDP chief tweeted.
"Clearly, with the rise in kidnapping of police personnel and their families, Centre’s muscular policy is not working at all. Dialogue, the only way forward seems to be a distant dream for now," Mehbooba added.
The bullet-ridden bodies of three policemen were recovered from an orchard in Wangam area in Shopian on Friday morning, more than a kilometre from the village they were abducted from.
Police identified the dead as constable Nissar Ahmed and two special police officers - Firdous Ahmed and Kulwant Singh - from Kapren and Heepora areas of Shopian district.
Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo has taken responsibility of the kidnapping, murder of the three security personnel.
Mehbooba headed the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir with the help of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but she had to resign after the BJP pulled out of the government in June.
The BJP had then blamed the PDP for failing to improve the security conditions in the Kashmir Valley.
