A shutdown called by separatists affected life across the Kashmir Valley on Friday with heavy security deployed here and other vulnerable places.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, called for the shutdown against the killing of a civilian in Srinagar on Thursday.
Authorities have taken Muhammad Yasin Malik into preventive custody and lodged him in the Kothibagh police station in Srinagar.
Shops, public transport, other businesses and educational institutions remained closed in most parts of Srinagar city and other district headquarters.
Private transport and some three wheelers were, however, seen moving.
Attendance in government offices, banks and post offices was also affected due to the non-availability of public transport.
No untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far.
