Bengaluru: A 22-year-old man allegedly killed his 90-year-old grandmother on Monday night by hitting her with a wooden plank on neck after she accidentally damaged his new mobile phone worth Rs 7,000.
The accused who is a painter has been has been arrested by Banashankari police and identified as Shivaraju.
Around 6:30 pm, he returned home and kept the phone on charge on a window sill of their house at Kadirenahalli in Banashankari. His grandmother Lakshmamma, who failed to notice the phone because of her poor eyesight, accidentally came in contact with the charger wire. The phone fell down resulting damage of the display screen.
Shivaraju, in a fit of rage, grabbed a wooden plank and hit her hard leading to Laskhmamma collapsing with pain.
On hearing the scream, Lakshmamma’s five sons, including Shivaraju’s parents, who live on the same lane, came into the house and took her to her bedroom. Unaware of the seriousness of the situation, they applied an ointment and nursed her to sleep.
Next morning, Lakshmamma did not respond when her family members tried to wake her up. Her sons immediately took her to a nearby private hospital where she was declared brought dead due to internal bleeding and fractured skull.
