Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious scheme to provide electricity to every household in the country has achieved remarkable success with 15 states reporting complete electrification.

Speaking to reporters after a review meeting with states, Union Minister of State for Power and Renewable Energy, RK Singh said that 2.1 crore power connections have been released so far under Saubhagya – ‘Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana’ which was launched in September, 2017.

“Eight states have achieved 100 per cent saturation in household electrification under Saubhagya namely Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Sikkim, Telangana and West Bengal. Thus total 15 States in the country now have 100 per cent household electrification," RK Singh said.

“Many more states like Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh etc. are left with small number of un-electrified households and expected to achieve saturation any time," the minister said, adding that with the present pace of electrification, India is expected to achieve 100 per cent saturation by December 31, 2018.

RK Singh further said that the Modi government is committed to ensure 24x7 access to electricity for all by March 31, 2019.

“Achievement of 100 per cent household electrification in the country would be a major milestone in the direction to achieve 24x7 power for all," he said.
