Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar today exuded confidence that Russia will never do anything against India’s best interests.
Briefing media persons after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with the visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin, Jaishankar pointed out that both India and Russia condemn terrorism in all ‘its forms and manifestations’.
“The sense of meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russia President Vladimir Putin was that the relationship has really progressed well in last nine months,” Jaishankar said.
The Indian Foreign secretary also said that India has expressed its gratitude to Russia for its unequivocal condemnation of the terror attack on Uri Army base that resulted in the death of 19 Indian soldiers.
Referring to the signed agreements between India and Russia, Jaishankar said that the present scale of investments between the two countries is ‘unprecedented’.
He added that India intends to foster a better relationship with Russia in both private and public sectors.
Earlier in the day, India and Russia signed a total of 16 agreements mostly in the fields of defence, energy, power, ship-building and space.
