Nagpur: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday announced that the organization will switch from its trademark khaki shorts to brown colored trousers.
The organisation said there is no specific reason behind choosing the brown colour for the trousers.
“Trousers are more common in normal life. We are people who move with the times. So we had no hesitation in changing the dress code,” RSS’ Bhaiyyaji Joshi told reporters.
RSS leaders believe the move will signal that the organisation – considered the ideological mentor of the ruling BJP – is willing to move with the times.
Earlier reports said that the khaki shorts would be changed to grey trousers for ceremonial functions.
"Discussions are going on in this regard. If change will come through, it will be announced tomorrow," said Aniruddh Deshpande, Akhila Bharathiya Sah Sampark Pramukh of the RSS.
Several proposals have come up for change in Ganvesh (uniform) and this will be discussed in the annual meeting of ABPS. This will be about replacing knickers with full pants.
Several proposals regarding its colour are also there but the colour will not be khakhi," Akhil Bhartiya Prachar Pramukh of RSS, Manmohan Vaidya has earlier said at a press briefing ahead of the meeting.
He said that the issue was debated in 2010 but since there was no consensus it was deferred for five years, adding that the discussion on the matter resumed last year.
Vaidya said representatives from all over the country will discuss progress in their respective areas of work, innovations, achievements and experience at the three-day meeting, conducted every year in March.
The RSS leader added 92 training programmes will be conducted in the country this year, in which 15,000-20,000 participants will take part at different levels.
"All these things will be discussed in the meeting," he said.
