Punjab police made quick headway in the sensational PNB bank robbery case and have arrested one of the accused within two days of the theft.

The police have also recovered a .32-bore country-made pistol (which was used in the robbery), two magazines, five cartridges and a motorcycle used in the crime from his possession.

It took 90 seconds for a gang of four robbers to loot Rs 15 lakh from Ludhiana's Jawahar Nagar camp branch of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) this Monday's afternoon and make a swift exit . They held the cashier at gunpoint and made away with the cash in almost one and half minutes.

Police said that they fled towards a narrow street on motorcycles.  They were riding Pulsar motorcycles without registration plates on them. Six bank employees and a customer were present in the bank at the time of the incident. The bank is just a few feet away from Kochhar market police post.

As per branch manager Ramesh Chawla, the robbers thrashed one customer.

He said that bank branch was equipped with an alarm system but the situation had turned tense that they forgot to press it.

Commissioner of Police Jatinder Singh Aulakh said, “Six separate teams have been constituted to arrest the robbers.”

Sukhwinder Singh is a hardcore criminal, who has been facing four cases of robbery and possessing illegal weapons in various police stations.

Sukhwinder Singh confessed that he bought the pistol from Meerut (UP).
