Reality test: RBI asks banks to preserve CCTV recordings, do they have working surveillance system? (watch video)

RBI issued a notification yesterday asking banks to preserve CCTV recordings of operations at bank branches and currency chests.

RBI, CCTV footages, surveillance system India TV's reality test of CCTV systems of banks

The Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday issued a notification asking banks to preserve CCTV recordings of operations at bank branches and currency chests, however many banks across the country do not have working surveillance system.

The RBI had issued a notification yesterday saying that banks should "preserve CCTV recordings of operations at bank branches and currency chests for the period from November 8 to December 30, 2016, until further instructions".

A day after the notification, India TV visited several bank branches across the country to do a reality check on the status of CCTVs. Many bank branches do not have adequate surveillance infrastructure and some seem to not care much about it.

In a rare coincidence, a bank in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district reported that thieves stole the DVR of camera hours after the notification was issued.

Ironically, thieves stole a computer and digital video recorder (DVR) but left behind the large cash kept at the branch.

The incident occurred at the Deputy Ganj branch of the city. The DVR had recording of CCTV footages of last one month.

Police could not found finger prints at the crime scene which has raised suspicion at bank employees.
