‘Rape incidents very unfortunate’: Haryana CM Khattar promises strict action against culprits, asks opposition not to politicise it

The shocking incident of the alleged rape of the Dalit girls came close on the heels of another incident last month, in which a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in Haryana's Uklana area in Hisar district.

Amid outrage over the alleged rape and killing of two minor Dalit girls in Haryana, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today assured that strict action would be taken against those involved in such crimes.

Khattar, who met BJP president Amit Shah in the national capital this morning, also said that Haryana is in the process of establishing special courts for speedy trial in such cases to
ensure timely justice to the victims.

"Such incidents are very unfortunate and I am myself deeply hurt. We will take strict action against all those involved (in committing such crimes)," he said.

The CM said that he has ordered the state police to increase its patrolling and a few Inspector General-level officers have also been transferred.

Appealing to opposition parties, Khattar said he himself has never done politics over such incidents and the opposition also should refrain from politicising such sensitive issues.

"The state has already started a Dial 100 project. Soon we will also begin 1090 service, a dedicate helpline service for women," he said.

Congress demands dismissal  of Khattar govt

The Congress, on the other hand, demanded the dismissal of the Khattar government, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.

A Congress delegation, led by former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, submitted a memorandum to the Governor  and sought the imposition of President's Rule in the
state.

Alleging that lawlessness prevails in the state and there was a complete breakdown of the law and order machinery, the Congress urged the Governor to recommend to the Centre to dismiss the Khattar government.

Besides Hooda and most of the party legislators from the state, the delegation comprised senior leaders Selja, state Congress Legislature Party leader Kiran Choudhary and Mahila Congress's national president Sushmita Dev.

The Congress leaders expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of rape-and-murder and "rising crime graph" in the state.

After meeting the Governor, Dev said they also demanded job for the next of kin of the victims. She said the 15-year-old girl's family has demanded a CBI probe into the case.

"The Governor assured us that he will definitely take it up with the chief minister. He also assured us that he will seek a report from the chief minister on why such incidents were taking place," Dev said.

Earlier in the day, RC Mishra, ADGP Ambala Range told media that “rape was a part of society and police's role was limited to nabbing criminals”.

"It's part of society. Such incidents have been taking place since forever. Role of police is to probe, nab criminal and prove things," Mishra said, adding that the police was leaving no stone unturned to catch the culprits in the rape case.

A 15-year-old girl's half-naked body was found on Saturday from near the bank of a canal in a village in Jind district after she had gone missing last Tuesday from her village in Kurukshetra district. The girl was brutally assaulted, her private parts mutilated and some of the vital organs ruptured.

In a separate incident, an 11-year-old girl was raped and killed in Panipat last week.

The shocking incident of the alleged rape of the Dalit girls came close on the heels of another incident last month, in which a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in Haryana's Uklana area in Hisar district.
