Rape cases: More trouble for Ram Rahim? Both sadhvis file plea seeking life imprisonment for Dera chief

"Both sadhvis filed their pleas in Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking life imprisonment for Ram Rahim Singh in place of 20-years-jail in the two rape cases," reported ANI.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in jail in two separate cases.

The two female disciples (sadhvis), on whose complaint Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in prison in rape cases, have now moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking life imprisonment for the sect chief.

"Both sadhvis filed their pleas in Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking life imprisonment for Ram Rahim Singh in place of 20-years-jail in the two rape cases," reported ANI.

The development comes nearly a month after the court sentenced Ram Rahim Singh to 20 years in prison for rape. Eighteen years after he raped two of his female disciples, the disgraced Dera chief was sentenced for rape and criminal intimidation and fined Rs 30 lakh.

The court had even termed rapist self-styled godman's conduct as that of a "wild beast". "This court is of the considered view that when the convict did not spare even his own pious disciples and acted like a wild beast, he does not deserve any mercy," CBI special court judge Jagdeep Singh had said.

Meanwhile, Ram Rahim's controversial adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan, who was arrested by the Haryana Police on Tuesday is expected to be produced before a trial court today.
