A bunch of Kashmiri students of Mewar University clashed with locals in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh on Wednesday after they were allegedly taunted as “stone-pelters”.
According to a report in Times of India, these Kashmiri students claimed that they were taunted over the recent viral video of a CRPF jawan being heckled in Budgam.
However, according to the TOI report, the FIR lodged by these students does not say anything about the “stone-pelter” taunt because they do not want the issue to flare-up as it’s exam time for them. It simply says that these students had gone out for shopping and had a clash over some comments made by persons not known to them.
One of these Kashmiri students, however, told TOI on the condition of anonymity that they were beaten up by locals after being held responsible for heckling of the CRPF official.
“We went out to buy some groceries. The youths outside held us responsible for heckling of the CRPF official. They started beating us for no reason at all. The entire episode has wasted our day, at a time when we're busy studying," the Kashmiri student was quoted as saying by TOI.
Terming the incident a "minor clash", the Gangrar police said that the two unidentified youths involved in this incident are being located with the help of the locals.
"The incident happened at 6pm when Kashmiri students were returning to their hostel. They had a heated argument with two unidentified youths over unknown reasons. The arguments soon turned violent. The two youths ran away from the spot after the clash. We are locating them with the help of locals," Dinesh Kumar, SHO, Gangrar police station, told TOI.
Meanwhile, taking serious note of the incident, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked all the states to ensure safety of all Kashmiris across India.
“I appeal to all states, they should ensure safety of all Kashmiris anywhere in country. They are also equal citizens of India,” Rajnath Singh said.
“I have asked states to take strict action against those who misbehave with the Kashmiri youth,” he added.
