The security forces on Monday morning killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist in an encounter in Samboora area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The operation concluded after two militants succeeded in fleeing away.
The neutralised militant was identified as Umer of Abu Ismail group and one AK 47 rifle was recovered from the encounter site.
The operation was jointly carried out by Awantipora Police, 50 RR and CRPF.
In wake of the gunfight, authorities have blocked the internet services in Pulwama as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the district.
On August 3, the security forces had gunned down two militants belonging to the Hixbul Mujahideen group in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. One of the of the slain militants was involved in an attack on a bank cash van in the district on May 1 this year in which five policemen and two bank guards were killed.
On August 1, in a major breakthrough, the security forces had killed top LeT terrorist Abu Dujana and his accomplice Arif in an encounter in Pulwama district. Abu Dujana was a Pakistani national wanted for many attacks on security forces and political workers in south Kashmir.
Dujana was a category 'A' militant and carried a reward of Rs 15 lakh on his head. He was a very close associate of Abdul Rehman alias Abu Qasim who was involved in an attack on a BSF convoy in Udhampur last year. Dujana was also involved in the killing of two CRPF personnel at Sangam in Anantnag district and in an attack on a police party at Gallander in Pampore area in which two constables were killed
