A day before Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district, a policeman was martyred and two others injured on Saturday when militants attacked them in the town, police said.

The policemen were on routine duties at the Anantnag bus stand when they were attacked.

"Constable Imtiyaz Ahmad was killed and two other policemen have been injured," a police official said, adding that the injured policemen have been shifted to hospital and the area surrounded for searches.

The attack came as Rajnath Singh is on a four-day visit to the state. The Minister is scheduled to address policemen in the Anantnag Police Lines and Central Reserve Police Force troopers in Khanabal area of the district on Sunday.

Earlier today, a militant was killed in a gunfight that erupted between holed up terrorists and the security forces in a village in Baramulla district.

Receiving specific inputs about the militant hide-out, security forces including the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police surrounded Reban village on the outskirts of Sopore town.

Authorities have closed all educational institutions, including higher secondary schools and the degree college in Sopore. Internet services have also been suspended in the area to prevent any misinformation.
