A civilian and a policeman were shot dead by militants in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday.
According to police, the terrorists opened fire on policeman Manzoor Ahmed at Chanser in Kulgam at 8.30 pm.
They said that Manzoor, who was working in District Police Special Branch, Kulgam, and civilian Farooq Ahmed, who was also hit in the firing, died on the spot, while two other civilians sustained injuries.
The injured persons have been referred to a Srinagar hospital, they said.
Superintendent of Police, Kulgam, Muhammad Irshad, said that shops had opened in Chamsar village when militants attacked people.
Militants also fired at Aqib Manzoor Dar of Dohbi Ghat Bijbehara at Tilwani village in Anantnag district. He was shot in the leg and was referred to hospital for treatment.
The attack by terrorists took place on a day the Centre held an all-party meet regarding the situation in the Valley.
