External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has taken cognisance of reports of five Indian sailors having been abducted by pirates in Nigeria.
Sushma Swaraj, on Tuesday, said she was looking into the safe release of the sailors and had taken up the matter with the Indian high commissioner.
“I have seen news reports about abduction of five Indian sailors by pirates in Nigeria. I am asking Indian High Commissioner to take this up at the highest level with Government of Nigeria for their release,” the external affairs minister said in a tweet.
It has been 16 days since pirates abducted the above-mentioned five Indian sailors after taking their ship at Bonny Outer anchorage in Nigeria.
There has since been no news about their whereabouts.
Reports say the families have also contacted the ship owners.
