BJP leader Varun Gandhi on Thursday won the Pilibhit Lok Sabha seat defeating Hemraj Verma of the SP by a margin of over 2.50 lakh votes.
The seat was held by Varun Gandhis's mother and Union minister Maneka Gandhi.
This time she is contesting from Sultanpur seat, where Varun Gandhi had won in the last general election.
Varun Gandhi polled over seven lakh votes, while Verma got over 4.48 lakh votes.
The Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency is currently held by Maneka Gandhi of BJP. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Maneka Gandhi beat Budhsen Verma of SP by receiving 52.10 per cent of the votes cast in this constituency.
At the time of the previous Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Pilibhit had 1,671,151 registered electors -- 903,420 of them male and 767,731 female. The constituency had seen a 62.86 per cent voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The Lok Sabha constituency went to polls in the third phase of the election -- on April 23 and recorded a voter turnout of 67.20 per cent.
The seven phases of the Lok Sabha polls 2019 covered a total of 543 constituencies. Voting in the first phase was conducted on April 11.
Simultaneous elections were held to the assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, and Odisha -- the results for which will also be out today.
