The Border Security Force (BSF) today said that troops have gunned down a Pakistani woman along the International Border in the Dera Baba Nanak Sector of Gurdaspur district in Punjab.

A BSF official said that the woman intruder was killed when she trespassed into Indian territory. The woman, in the age group of 25-30, was shot dead around 11.10 pm on Tuesday.

A BSF patrol team detected suspicious movement along the barbed wire fence at the border outpost in Ghania Ke last night, the official said.  The woman, who is yet to be identified, was shot dead when she ignored their warning to surrender and kept moving towards them.

BSF Deputy Inspector General RS Kataria said that they contacted Pakistan Rangers to hand over the body, but they refused to accept it.

Kataria added that the body of the deceased was later handed over to Dera Baba Nanak police station for last rites.

Security along the 553-km Indian border with Pakistan in Punjab is always high.
