Border Security Force (BSF) troopers shot dead an intruder from Pakistan early this morning in Punjab's frontier district of Gurdaspur.

According to a BSF official, the intruder was shot dead near pillar 15/3.

The identity of the intruder is being verified, he added.

The incident took place when the BSF personnel spotted some suspicious movement near the fence along the International Border (IB).

The intruder was shot after he did not heed repeated warnings by the BSF personnel.

Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned off and search operations are underway to look for more intruders.

Gurdaspur has often been a high alert zone and a common entry point for infiltrators from Pakistan.

Punjab Police has been on alert in Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts after a Scorpio SUV, stolen from Jammu earlier, broke a police barrier last week in Gurdaspur.
