At least two Army jawans were injured in an attack on a patrolling party in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara on Thursday. Security forces have launched a combing operation in the area to flush out the terrorists.
"Terrorists opened fire on a link patrol ahead of the fence at the Line of Control in Keran sector," a Defence Spokesman said in Srinagar.
The ambush between the terrorists and Indian Army took place on a day when Home Minister Rajnath is visiting Jammu and Kashmir to review suspension of military operations against the terrorists.
Rajnath Singh will review the law and order situation, with the state Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and senior officials of various state and Central departments, before taking a take a call on whether the present suspension of operations against the militants would be extended after the Eid festival to cover the annual Amarnath Yatra.
The Army on Wednesday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing three militants.
Troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Macchil sector in Kupwara district and challenged the infiltrators, an Army official said. Three militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight, he said, adding search operations were on in the area.
