Over 80 Delhi-bound trains were delayed by several hours while 13 trains, including Shatabdi, were cancelled due to foggy weather conditions in the northern region, said a senior railway official, adding that 40 trains were rescheduled.
Several flights were also affected due to poor runway visibility conditions at the airport in New Delhi, with many of them getting delayed and one flight being cancelled, officials said.
Meanwhile, Airlines have requested all passengers to cross check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
Earlier, the MeT Department predicted mainly clear skies for Saturday along with the possibility of moderate to dense fog at some places during the morning hours.
"The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 25 and 10 degrees Celsius respectively," the MeT office said.
The weather department also said that the fog cover in Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim is likely to last for few more days.
Traffic movement on the busy National Highway (NH-1), which runs through Punjab and Haryana, connecting Amritsar with Delhi, was also affected.
