Apart from the prevailing state of unrest after Burhan Wani’s killing, the continuous unprovoked firing and shelling by Pakistan has forced the government to shut down over 200 schools along the border in Jammu and Samba districts.
According to a Times of India report, nearly 174 schools in Jammu and 45 schools in Samba will remain shut “until further orders”, official sources said on Tuesday.
The order applies to both government and private schools in border areas and along the LoC in Khour, Jourian, Marh, R S Pura, Arnia , Satwati (only Mandal/Makhwal/Lalyal), Akhnoor, Bishnah and Miran Sahib, etc.
In last 11 days, 60 ceasefire violations by Pakistan have been recorded at the International Border and the BSF itself has lost three jawans.
On the other hand, the state of unrest in the Valley seems to be turning bitter at least 27 schools have been set on fire by miscreants so far.
Police said on Tuesday that they had arrested 12 suspects, with a search underway for another 23.
“In view of the prevailing situation at the international border and the line of control (LoC) in Jammu district, and purely as a precaution... the schools (identified) shall remain closed till further orders,” Jammu deputy commissioner Simran Deep Singh was quoted by Times of India as saying.
Meanwhile, Samba deputy commissioner Sheetal Nanda has ordered the closure of schools situated within 2.5 km range of the border.
On the other hand, state government has announced that annual board examinations will be held next month even though the schools have remained closed since July following killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces.
