Yogi Adityanath government is mulling to cancel the accreditation of as many as 2,682 madrassas in Uttar Pradesh for failing to submit their details on the Madrassa Portal, despite several reminders. 16,461 madrassas, out of which 560 are fully-aided by the Uttar Pradesh government, have provided their details on a portal of UP Madrassa Board, launched on August 18 this year.
The portal was launched with a purpose to weed out bogus madrassas and check "irregularities in madrassas".
The Yogi government had instructed these institutions to provide details of their building, measurement of classrooms with pictures, number of teachers, their Aadhaar numbers, account details of the madarsas etc on the Board’s website by September 15.
Despite extension in deadline, 2,682 madrassas in the state have not yet furnished their details on the web page.
The government aid is likely to be stopped to these institutions.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the people of state have every right to know where their money is being spent and that is why the portal was launched.
Meanwhile, madrassas which failed to register complained that they had no information about the process and sought more time.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board said madrassas have no qualms in following the government directive but many of them did not receive information regarding it.
Speaking to India TV, AIMPLB member Zafaryab Jilani said madrassas have nothing to hide and the government already has details of institutions that receive aid.
