Security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir today arrested one militant as they foiled an attempt by ultras to rob a bank here.
According to police, two armed men entered into a branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank on the Tehsil office premises in Mehandi Kadal in Anantnag this afternoon.
Security personnel deployed there tried to apprehend the militants, but they opened fire, a police official said, adding that a CRPF head constable sustained bullet injury in his right hand.
“One of the militants, who was carrying a weapon, managed to escape,” the official said.
His accomplice, however, was arrested by police and CRPF personnel, the official said.
The arrested militant has been identified as Muneeb Ahmad Malla, a resident of Reshipora in Shopian district.

During interrogation, the militant confessed that he is an operative of Hizbul Mujahideen.
“The name of my colleague was Raza. I was asked to snatch rifle from the CRPF jawan. I don’t know how to fire pistol or rifle. He (Raza) had threatened me to follow his ordr otherwise he will kill me,” the militant said.
“Yes, I was given money to come here. He had asked to snath the rifle from jawan otherwise he will kill me. I don’t know from where he had come,” he added.
Meanwhile, Section 144 CrPc have been imposed in various parts of Kupwara after the incident.
