Roopa Divakar Moudgil, the female IPS officer known for a fearless and accessible persona, has become the first woman officer of Railway Police. Taking over the charge of the post in Bengaluru on International Women's Day, D Roopa, as she is widely known, invited any complaints or information about offences happening in railway stations anywhere in the state.
"On this International Women's Day, Railway Police gets its first woman officer. l've assumed charge as IGP Railways, Karnataka. Any complaints/information on offences happening in railway stations anywhere in the state, you may bring to my notice," she said on Twitter.
D Roopa is a famous IPS face in India. She has conducted several TEDX talks and claims to write, sing and shoot.
She had shot to limelight recently when, as DIG Prisons, she pointed out irregularities inside the Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru. The latest reports submitted after an investigation confirmed Roopa's claims that special provisions were being given to few prisoners including former AIADMK chief V Sasikala. Sasikala has been lodged in Parappana Agrahara after she was convicted in a disproportionate assets case.
She had recently slammed Shah Faesal on social media for saying that Pakistani PM Imran Khan should be given a Noble Peace Prize for sending back IAF pilot Abhinandan after his MiG-21 crashed and he landed in Pak-occupied-Kashmir during an aerial combat with Pak F-16 fighter jet last month.
She has served as Additional Commandant General, Home Guards and Civil Security Department Additional Director.
D Roopa's latest appointment was welcomed by her Twitter followers.
"Girl in uniform', it's 'you' who brings glory to your position and not the position that brings glory to you; wherever you are posted. Wishing you very successful tenure in the present assignment also," one Twitter user said.
Many Twitter users lauded the women power she symbolises.
A few others referred to India's female defence chief Nirmala Sitharaman to laud her achievement.
