Alleging sexual harassment by a BJD candidate, a woman tried to immolate herself outside the residence of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday. The woman was however rescued and was sent to a hospital, where her condition was stated to be normal. Meanwhile, heavy security personnel was deployed outside Patnaik's home.
Commenting on the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar, Anup Sahoo said, ""Though she poured kerosene on her body, security people did not allow her to set herself on fire."
The woman alleged that she was sexually harassed by Srinath Soren, the BJD candidate of Udala assembly constituency in Mayurbhanj district. The woman further claimed her grievance was not addressed even after she lodged a complaint with the police.
The woman's allegation was meanwhile rejected by Soren, who claimed that he did not know her.
"This could be a conspiracy against me by my political rivals," Soren said.
