New Delhi: In order to further facilitate airport-bound passengers, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will introduce check-in facility at Shivaji Stadium metro station of Airport Express Line from July 1.
Presently, this facility is only availed by the passengers of Air India at the New Delhi metro station of the Airport Express Line for domestic flights and a few flights to Gulf countries.
"From July 1 onwards, passengers of Air India and Jet Airways will be able to do city check-in for domestic and international flights from both New Delhi as well as Shivaji Stadium metro stations of the Airport Express Line," an official statement from DMRC said.
The flight check-in facility from both the stations would close two hours prior to the departure time.
"Passengers of Air India and Jet Airways can check in their baggage from these two stations from two hours to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the flight," the statement said.
After the passengers have checked-in, their baggage will be transferred to Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal-3, through a secured Baggage Handling System (BHS).
The statement further read, "The highly sophisticated BHS ensures that baggage reaches airport in time. Free luggage trolleys are also available for passengers at the entry gates and platforms at all metro stations of the Airport Express Line."
A Visa Facilitation Service (VFS) was also introduced recently at the Shivaji Stadium metro Station.
DMRC has taken a number of measures to attract passengers since it took over the operations of Airport Express Line from Reliance Infra in July 2013.
The average daily ridership of Airport Express Line is around 36,000.
