No proposal to rename Ramlila Maidan after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, clarifies NDMC

The clarification came after Arvind Kejriwal took a dig at PM Modi saying a reported move to rename the Ramlila Maidan won't fetch the BJP votes but "changing the name of the Prime Minister might".

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on Saturday clarified that there was no proposal to rename Ramlila Maidan after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The clarification came after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the matter saying a reported move to rename the Ramlila Maidan won't fetch the BJP votes but "changing the name of the Prime Minister might".

Citing a news report on the proposed renaming, Kejriwal tweeted, "Changing name of Ramlila Maidan etc after Vajpayeeji will not fetch votes. BJP should change the name of the Prime Minister to get some votes because people are not voting on his name."

However, North Delhi Mayor Adesh Gupta dismissed the report and said there was no such proposal.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari also hit back at Kejriwal for his remarks and said that some people were deliberately trying to mislead people.

"Some politically motivated people are creating the rumour that name of Ramlila Maidan will be changed. We are worshippers of Lord Ram, there is no question of changing name of Ramlila Maidan," Tiwari said.
