Medical experts from Kozhikode medical college, who led the battle against Nipah virus in the city last year, have decided to head to Kochi considering the likely outbreak reported from Ernakulam.
According to local media reports, one expert each from the microbiology, infectious disease and emergency medicine departments will head to Kochi to bring the situation under control. This came soon after the presence of the virus was confirmed in a youth admitted to a private hospital there.
Though more doctors from Kozhikode medical college are likely to accompany the team of three experts, the hospital authorities have not revealed the number of doctors and their identity.
As of now, the blood reports of the youth, suspected to be infected by the Nipah virus are awaited. He was diagnosed to be infected as per the reports of the virology institute in Alappuzha.
The youth is being treated at a private hospital near Kochi.
Health Minister KK Shailaja has, however, refuted claims made by the online media that the youth under treatment was a Nipah positive patient.
She has said that there has been no confirmation about the youth's test results and hence, there was no need for any concern.
