Rain lashed Delhi in the early hours of Thursday with the monsoon reaching few parts of North India. The Indian Meteorological Department had on Wednesday informed that the national capital is expected to receive showers in the next 24-48 hours.
The water levels in rivers and major dams in the country is being observed by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The agency has also been monitoring the overall weather conditions of the country since the season has commenced.
The NDMA has issued dos and don’ts to stay safe during monsoons and floods.

Use disinfectants to keep your surroundings clean
Prepare a kit with all necessary items for safety and survival during emergency
Wear suitable footwear in case you cannot avoid stepping into the flood water
Keep distance from electric poles and uprooted power lines to avoid electrocution
Boil water before drinking to avoid illness
Move to higher grounds and safer places if you need to evacuate
Eat dry and freshly cooked food to remain healthy. Keep food items covered
