Praising the Narendra Modi government for its decision to build Kartarpur corridor for the Sikh pilgrims, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday expressed the hope that it will write a new chapter of faith and love for the region.
In a letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Sidhu expressed the hope that "this enterprise will yield undeniable and implicit change and thaw in the relations", adding "it will build bridges, burn animosity and will act like a soothing balm for two neighbouring countries.
In a landmark decision, the Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the construction and development of the Kartarpur Corridor from the Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab's Gurdaspur district to the International Border.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will lay the foundation stone of Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak on November 26, news agency PTI reported quoting its sources in Punjab govt.
Responding to Indian government’s decision, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Islamabad has already conveyed to New Delhi its decision to open Kartarpura Corridor for Baba Guru Nanak's 550th birth anniversary.
"Pakistan has already conveyed to India its decision to open Kartarpura Corridor for Baba Guru Nanak's 550th birth anniversary. PM Imran Khan will do break ground at Kartarpura facilities on 28th November. We welcome the Sikh community to Pakistan for this auspicious occasion," Qureshi said in a tweet.
Kartarpur Sahib is the final resting place of Sikh faith's founder Guru Nanak Dev.
