Six officials were suspended on Sunday on account of "negligence and dereliction of duty" in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case in Bihar. Assistant directors of Social welfare department from Muzaffarpur, Bhojpur, Munger, Araria, Madhubani and Bhagalpur were taken action against after Tata Institute of Social Sciences's (TISS) social audit report. Meanwhile, one of the four girls who had escaped the place has been found in Uttar Pradesh, said police sources on Saturday. The girl was reportedly residing at a shelter home in Lucknow, said sources.
The girl was among the four who had managed to flee while three other inmates had died, according to records of the Muzaffarpur shelter home. An FIR had been registered on fleeing of the girls, sources said.
Senior Superintendent of Police of Muzaffarpur, Harpreet Kaur, had earlier said the police were verifying the cases of all the seven girls.
Sexual abuse of over 30 girls has been confirmed in medical reports. The shelter home, embroiled in a sex scandal, has been since then sealed. The case was handed over to the CBI last week.
Records pertaining to the shelter home have been obtained by the CBI sleuths, from the social welfare department in Patna. Sources confirmed that the documents are being examined.
The team is likely to question some senior officials of the department if it comes across any act of "omission or commission", the sources said.
An FIR was lodged by the state social welfare department in June after the Muzaffarpur shelter home incident had come to light. 10 people have been arrested in the case.
