In an appalling incident, a couple and their 15-year-old daughter were found hanging in their rented house in Navi Mumbai’s Kamothe area on Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Indrajit Dutta, 50, his 45-year-old wife Jasmine Patel, an MBBS doctor, and their 15-year-old daughter Oshin.

According to a senior police official, the family took the extreme step a couple of days ago. However, the incident came to light this morning after their maid returned to work.

The maid rang the doorbell several times, but when there was no response, she opened the door with a spare key. Upon entering the flat, she found Indrajit's body hanging from the ceiling fan in the living room, the officer said.

As per the preliminary investigation, the mother and daughter first committed suicide by hanging themselves in one of the bedrooms of the flat, he added.

Indrajit was in an inebriated condition. When he saw the bodies of his wife and daughter hanging, he took them down, came to the living area and committed suicide

According to a Hindustan Times report, all three left suicide notes giving different reasons for ending their lives.

The doctor said that she had been ailing for long and had had lost interest in life. Jasmime also wrote that she did not wish to leave her daughter alone and hence they were taking the extreme step together.

In the suicide note, the woman expressed her desire to donate her body as well as that of her daughter to the KEM hospital.

Oshin, in her suicide note, that after he saw the two dead, he lost his will to live and so was hanging himself too.

As per the suicide note, purportedly written by Indrajit, he found the bodies of his wife and daughter hanging and hence lost desire to live.

Hemant Nagrale, police commissioner of Navi Mumbai said, the family used nylon ropes to hang themselves.

Ashok Naik, senior police inspector of Kamothe police station said the man was apparently drinking in the living room when the mother and daughter committed suicide. “He realised what happened when the effect of the alcohol wore off and brought down the bodies. He must have then killed himself,” Naik was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.
