A Mumbai-based student, Abdullah Khan (21) may not have got shortlisted for an IIT entrance exam, but he has bagged an offer which many IITians would envy. The final year BE student, Khan has landed a job at Google's UK office in London this week for a package of Rs.1.2 crore. The average salary offered to a non- IITian in the city is around 4 lakh per annum, according to a report in ToI.
It is a dream of every tech professional to get recruited in the top global technical giant companies like Google, Microsoft or Facebook. Student spend years to prepare themselves to get admission in institutes like IITs but not every person gets this opportunity to secure an admission in the institution.
Abdullah Khan, a student of Shree LR Tiwari Engineering College situated in Mira Road, was invited for an interview conducted by Google.
After appearing for a few online interviews, Khan was asked to give the final screening at Google's office in London early this month.
His package includes the base salary of Rs. 54.5 lakh (60,000 pounds) per annum, 15 per cent bonus (Rs. 81 lakh) and stock options worth Rs 58.9 lakh over four years. He will join Google's site reliability engineering team in September.
An email from a Google official in November last year mentioned that they had seen Khan's profile on the programming site, and have also mentioned that they were looking for people for locations across Europe.
Khan told TOI he was not expecting such an offer when he participated in competitions on that site. "I used to participate as it was fun. I did not even know that firms check programmers' profiles on such sites. I showed the email to my friend who knew someone who had received such an email in the past. I am looking forward to joining their team. It will be an amazing learning experience for me," said Khan. The coding junkie did his schooling in Saudi Arabia and moved to Mumbai only after Class XII.
