Kota: Muslim clerics in Kota have issued a diktat banning DJs, loud music and wedding bands at Muslim weddings saying such practices are ‘un-Islamic, indecent and a cause of wasteful expenditure’.
The diktat also asks clerics not to solemnise nikah where bands are played and singing and dancing takes place.
City's qazi, Anwaar Ahmad, said, "If a cleric is found solemnising these weddings, no nikah forms will be distributed to them."
Endorsing the move, qazis across the state said that such practices are against the tenets of Islam and efforts must be made to put a check on same. However, some of them said that it is an economic issue rather than a religious one.
Rajasthan's chief qazi Khalid Usmani said people should be made aware that loud music at weddings are not good, but they can't be denied the right.
This is not the first time that Muslim clerics have imposed ban on DJs and music. Before this, Mullahs in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur had warned that nikha forms would not be given to those who indulge in music and DJing at weddings.
