Severe heatwave condition is persisting over many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, southern Uttar Pradesh, northern Madhya Pradesh and some parts of Jharkhand during past three-four days, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday.
“We are expecting this to continue for the next 2 days. The intensity will then decrease,” said IMD official M Mohapatra, reported ANI.
Monsoon is expected to arrive near Kerala around 6 June, the official informed.
“At present Monsoon has covered some extreme southern part of Arabian Sea and parts of southwest-southeast-east central Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman Nicobar islands. In the next 2-3 days it'll cover more parts of Arabian Sea,” said Mohapatra.
“We're expecting thunderstorm activity to continue for next 3-5 days over north-eastern states and over extreme southern peninsula. In Delhi, we are not expecting rain, as per our forecast the maximum temperature here can be as high as 46 degrees. It will gradually come down,” Mohapatra added.
