Mathura: Uttar Pradesh police has claimed to recover an US made rocket launcher from the Jawahar Bagh where last week the supporters of Swadheen Bharat Vidhik Satyagrahi (SBVS) had clashed with police.
"We have recovered a launcher which is made in USA. We will see the details first. It is under our custody," Mathura SSP Bablu Kumar said today.
The weapon was found during the search operation of 280 acres, which was encroached by Ram Vriksh Yadav-led outfit.
The US rocket launcher have imprint of for which the police was probing, Kumar said.
Twenty people, including two police officers, were killed during clash between members of SBVS and police on June 2. Clashes broke out in the city when police tried to evict illegal occupants from Jawahar Bagh on Allahabad High Court orders.
Police had earlier recovered automatic weapons and grenades the site. Besides, they had also seized around 57 country-made weapons and rifles. 7 bags of explosives, including one kg of white powder, 5 kg each of yellow and black powder, one broken electronic circuit plate along with 1 kg of iron chips was also recovered from the park.
Yesterday, Uttar Pradesh government ordered judicial probe into the violence. The probe will be conducted by retired judge of Allahabad High Court Imtiaz Murtaza and the inquiry committee has been asked to submit its report within two months.
