Mathura (UP): To unravel the mystery behind finances of group responisble for Mathura violence, the police is planning to seek details of bank accounts of relatives of Rakesh Gupta, financer and right hand man of Ram Vriksh Yadav, the leader of the encroachers at Jawahar Bagh.
Newly posted Mathura SSP Babloo Kumar said on Saturday, "In order to find out how the money for Ram Vriksh was pooled by his financer, we have decided to check the accounts of relatives as well as near and dear ones of Rakesh Gupta."
In a major breakthrough, police had arrested Gupta in Badaun on Friday, who had managed to flee from Jawahar Bag before police launched an operation to evict the encroachers on June 2.
Gupta, who was working as secretary at Sahkari Samiti Prasiddhpur, is accused of supplying arms, ration, vehicles and money to Ram Vriksh Yadav.
During brief interrogation before he was sent to judicial custody, Gupta told police, "I first reached Mathura Cantt. station from where we boarded a train for Kasganj. After deboarding in Kasganj, we boarded a bus for Bareli to reach the residence of my father-in-law. After dropping my family members there, I borrowed some money and proceeded for Ghatiyaghat Ashram falling under Ushait police station of Badaun."
Gupta was arrested from near Ataina bridge under Usaihat police station area on the Badaun-Farrukhabad border. Gupta also claimed that he had left rifles in Jawahar Bagh before fleeing, the police officer said, adding that no rifle was found during search of the area.
Encroachers at Jawahar Bagh in Mathura had indulged in largescale violence on June 2 when police wanted to evict them, resulting in the killing of 29 people including two policemen.
