West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday told media that she offered to resign from her post, but her proposal was rejected by Trinamool Congress.
"I have already told my party that i don't want to continue as the Chief Minister of Bengal. I have been telling them for the last 6 months that the chair means nothing to me, the party symbol is more important. When so much money is flowing in and out, it is very difficult to work as the CM," said Banerjee.
She was addressing the media in Kolkata.
Banerjee lashed out at the Election Commission as well.
"The Election Commission has become a BJP party. The opposition parties unitedly went to the EC asking them to act, but the EC did nothing," she said.
"The Code of Conduct was violated in these elections. There were bombs being thrown and bullets being fired. So much violence was taking place. The CRPF was threatening the voters, telling them who to vote for." Mamata added
Talking of her own party's performance she said, "The TMC needs to review its performance in various areas and work towards increasing our vote share. What kind of election was this? There are so many states with no opposition representation."
The BJP increased their vote share from 17 to 40 per cent in West Bengal winning 18 out of the 42 seats after a long fought campaign which saw several instances of violence.
