Rampur Lok Sabha election 2019 result: Azam Khan leads Jaya Prada by 1 lakh votes

Jaya Prada, weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, had switched loyalty. And was selected as BJP candidate from Rampur against Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan.

Counting of votes for the Rampur Lok Sabha constituency is still underway, and Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan is leading BJP's Jaya Prada by 1,09,997 votes.

BJP's Nepal Singh is the sitting MP from Rampur.

In 2014 Lok Sabha election, Singh narrowly defeated Samajwadi Party's Naseer Ahmed. Nepal Singh secured 37 per cent of votes while Naseer Ahmed secured 35 per cent votes. 

This time, the fight is between BJP's Jaya Prada and Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan. Jaya Prada is a two-time MP from Rampur. She previously won on Samajwadi Party ticket.

Notably, it is Azam Khan who had managed Jaya Prada's poll campaign when she fought on the SP ticket in the past.

Rampur has 16,16,972 voters out of which 54 per cent are men and 46 per cent are female. 

The seven phases of the Lok Sabha polls 2019 covered a total of 543 constituencies. Voting in the first phase was conducted on April 11. 

Simultaneous elections were held to the assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, and Odisha -- the results for which will also be out today.
