Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and winning candidate from Srinagar Farooq Abdullah on Friday danced during celebrations at the party office in Jammu.
National Conference has won two out of the three seats in the valley and is leading on one seat. Farooq Abdullah defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Aga Syed Mohsin.
Farooq Abdullah served as chief minister of the state on several occasions since 1982 and as the union minister for New and Renewable Energy between 2009 and 2014. He is the father of former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah.
The general election was held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. Counting of votes which started on Thursday, is still underway.
The 2019 elections attracted a turnout of over 67 per cent, the highest ever in the history of Indian general elections. The polls also witnessed highest recorded participation in Indian elections by women.
