Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the loss of lives in a fly-over collapse in Varanasi that has claimed 12 lives so far. Over 50 others are also said to be trapped under the debris.
"Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi. I pray that the injured recover soon. Spoke to officials and asked them to ensure all possible support to those affected," PM Modi tweeted.
The prime minister also spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said that the state government was monitoring the situation closely.
"I spoke to UP CM Yogi Adityanath Ji regarding the situation due to the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi. The UP Government is monitoring the situation very closely and is working on the ground to assist the affected," he added.
At least 18 people were killed and several feared trapped under debris after portion of an under construction flyover in Varanasi collapsed on Tuesday.
The flyover that was under-construction, collapsed in Cantt. area. 50 people are believed to be stuck under the debris. A number of vehicles are also said to be trapped.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a probe into the huge collapse in Varanasi. He has also announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased persons and Rs 2 lakh for the injured.
