Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav will tie the knot with Aiswarya Rai, the daughter of six-time Rashtriya Janata Dal lawmaker Chandrika Rai on Saturday. Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is facing a 14-year jail term, has been granted parole for three-days to attend his son's wedding ceremony. The court later granted an additional six weeks provisional bail for medical treatment.
Celebrations are in full swing at the Yadavs' mansion. The high-profile wedding will be attended by many political stalwarts.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Vadra and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar are among the 10,000 guests who are most likely attend the wedding. Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav will also reportedly attend the wedding.
Invitations have also been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah. However, they are not expected to attend the nuptial ceremony.
The attendance of the political bigwigs will be a sign of the opposition unity before the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
The Yadav family for a long time has been embroiled in a long string of scams including the infamous fodder scam, disproportionate assets case, IRCTC scam and money laundering case.
Lalu Prasad Yadav has been convicted in four fodder scam cases since 2013, the latest being the Dumka treasury case in which a special CBI court sentenced him to 14 years in jail.
