In a huge setback for former Bihar chief minister Lalu Yadav, the Jharkhand High Court on Friday rejected his bail plea. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief, who is currently undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital, will now have to surrender on August 30.

The Jharkhand High Court told Lalu's counsel that former Railway minister will have to undergo treatment at RIMS in Ranchi.

The high court had on May 11 granted six weeks provisional bail to Lalu on medical grounds, which was to expire on June 27. The court had later extended the bail.

Lalu has been convicted in four cases of the multi-crore fodder scam- Chaibasa Treasury on September 30, 2013, another Chaibasa Treasury (RC68A/96) on January 24, 2018, Deoghar Treasury (RC 64A/96) on February 23, 2018 and Dumka Treasury (RC38A/96) on February 19.

In the first case RC 20A/96 related to Chaibasa treasury, Lalu was sentenced on September 30, 2013 for five years and barred from contesting elections for six years. Later, he got bail in the case.

The multi-million scam had surfaced in the 1990s when Lalu Yadav was Bihar's chief minister. The case was handed over to the CBI following the Patna High Court's order.
