GSAT-7A, an exclusive satellite for the Indian Air Force was successfully injected into its orbit by GSLV-F11 that was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) in Sriharikota on Wednesday.
Here's all you need to know about the satellite:
1. ISRO's geosynchronous launch vehicle launched country's military communication satellite which will enhance the communication systems of the Indian Air Force.
2. The communication satellite will enable the Indian Air Force (IAF) to interlink different ground radar stations, airbases and AWACS aircraft.
3. GSAT-7A will not only interlink all airbases, but it will also boost drone operations.
4. It will also enhance the air force’s network-centric warfare capabilities and enhance its global operations.
5. GSAT-7A weighs 2,250kg and its mission life is eight years.
6. ISRO's fourth generation launch vehicle, GSLV-F11 injected the GSAT-7A into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.
7. The satellite costs around Rs 500-800 crore and its four solar panels are capable of generating around 3.3 kilowatts of electrical power.
