A Kerala court on Monday sent rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal to two-week judicial custody, till October 6. He was earlier arrested on charges of raping a nun. The Kerala High Court will hear his bail plea later in the day.
Bail plea of the Bishop was on Saturday rejected by a court after which he was sent to two-day police custody. His custody ended on Monday.
Mulakkal would be lodged at a sub jail in Kottayam district unless the high court gives him bail.
A medical check-up of the bishop was conducted at the Kottayam Police Club where he was kept since Saturday.
Bishop Mulakkal was questioned for three days after he was accused of repeatedly raping a nun between 2014 and 2016.
He headed the Roman Catholic Diocese in Punjab’s Jalandhar and was arrested in Kerala on September 21.
