As Kerala struggles to keep itself up and floating in what is being described as the worst floods that the state has seen in the last 100 years, help has started to pour in from all quarters.
While Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that all MPs, MLAs and ministers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will be donating a month's salary, states such as Bihar and Odisha have taken lead in announcing aid for Kerala.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced an aid of Rs 10 crore for flood-hit Kerala. Similarly, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announced an aid of Rs 5 crore. Patnaik has also announced that 245 fire personnel with boats will be sent to the flood-ravaged southern state.
Earlier in the day, PM Narendra Modi surveyed the flood affected regions of the Kerala. The prime minister announced an aid of Rs 500 crore in addition to the Rs 100 crore help which Home Minister Rajnath Singh had announced last week. Kerala Governor P Sathasivam and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Minister K J Alphons accompanied the prime minister during the aerial survey.
PM Modi saluted the people of the Kerala for their "fighting spirit" and said that the nation stands firmly with the state in the wake of the natural disaster.
"I salute the people of Kerala for their fighting spirit... the nation stands firmly with Kerala in this hour," Modi said in a series of tweets after chairing a high-level meeting to review the flood situation.
