In a rare incident, the Pathanapuram police on Thursday arrested a 13-year-old boy for allegedly impregnating his 15-year-old neighbour.
According to a Times of India report, the minor boy was produced before Kollam chief judicial magistrate, who granted him bail and sent him with his parents.
The report cited the police saying that the case was registered four days ago after the girl, who completed Class IX, delivered a baby.
The matter came to light when the girl complained of stomach pain. She was taken to hospital where the doctor informed her mother that she was fully pregnant.
Though the doctor referred her to a better hospital, the girl gave birth to a child after returning home. It was following this that the police registered a case against the 13-year-old boy.
The girl told the police that her teenage neighbour was responsible for her pregnancy.
The accused boy, a Class VIII student, was at a relative’s house in Mangaluru, from where the police summoned him.
The boy admitted that he had sex with the girl a few times. Following his statement, the police took him into custody on Thursday and produced him before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Recently, a similar case was reported in Ernakulam, where a 16-year-old girl gave birth to the child, fathered by a 12-year-old boy.
