Jharkhand: One dead as roof of coal mine collapses during illegal mining in Dhanbad

Rescue operations in the coal company were suspended following the recovery of the body from the mines, officials said.

One person was killed after the roof of a mine collapsed during illegal mining in Dhanbad, officials said on Thursday, adding the incident was reported at Kapasara open cast mines of Mugma area of the Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL). According to Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner A Dodde and ECL Mugma area General Manager Sadanand Suman, the incident occurred on Wednesday.

Unofficial sources however, claimed that more than half a dozen people were trapped during the illegal mining.

The deceased is yet to be identified, the officials said. His body was however, brought out from the debris, they said.

Rescue operations in the coal company were suspended following the recovery of the body from the mines, officials said.

The SDM has been directed to file a murder case against the ECL general manager and management of the outsourcing company involved in the mining since their security was not up to the mark, the deputy commissioner told reporters in Dhanbad on Thursday.

Mines Inspector Pintu Kumar lodged an FIR at the Nirsa Police Station against the ECL GM, Kapasara Colliery Project officers, Mugma area manager and outsourcing company officers in connection with the incident.
